For shame: "Our generation, doesn't seem terribly comfortable simply going out to a bar, meeting friends and hanging with them to chat. Raised on passive viewing, groups large and small - what a friend of mine calls 'single-sex packs' - rake through different bars..waiting expactantly for something interesting to happen to them, around them, in their presence - they're not quite sure."

Ron Motley (of big tobacco fame) is going after the Saudi's, claiming that they funded al Qaeda via protection payments over time.
Old story, but I'm just catching on. He's funding the suit personally.

"From Williamsburg to the lower East side, bands have been reawakening jaded local audiences with rock that’s true to New York’s self-image: lean, smart and hard-nosed, with streaks of art and insolence. "</b>

Artists: "They spent long romantic stretches in the country, mixed with the great artists of their time in New York, struggled to make ends meet and danced on the roof outside their apartment."

Sargent's Madame X

The american gothic. Daugher of Creole landowners, born in New Orleans and brought to Paris by her mother after her father died in the the Civil War.

Note the suggesively low drape of the the black velvet dress via the loose strap.

Her skin tone is suspect, possibly the work of an enameler or by judicious doses of arsenic, known for its bleaching effect.

With her social status destroyed (by the suggestive painting), she ended her life a recluse.

It pays to be a hard-ass with customer service reps. I went from a "no" to a "yes" on a question regarding an auto lease transfer in a matter of ~10 minutes.

We went down the policy, legal, and "mystical" paths of discussion for this topic.

From this moment forth I'll champion the issue of getting a course added to our high school curriculums that educates our fair country on the in's and out's of logical fucking conversation.

Before I launch into another post of this type, I'll introduce a site that’s doing this the RIGHT way:

The Dream Project, check it.

On with the subconscious flow:

I was in a hot, sunny local, something like Cancun, but natural. Two chics from my junior high posse and myself were at the top of a cliff over the ocean, naked as tribesmen. There was some largish assortment of people in the ocean near the bottom of the cliff, lounging about. We were afraid to jump but pressured to jump, having seen this assortment of people jump and swim off safely. The kicker is that this cliff was at an impossible height. No one could survive the jump.

I woke up before we could jump.

bloggers do good!

Please do not make fun of the periodical that put out this article. I'm quite sensitive about it.

Some people just don't learn. When you're talking and the person listening is saying "right" with an extra beat in the "ight", it means that you should stop talking. You're entirely obvious or wrong and wasting the time of your audience.

OK, I'm done.

Interpol didn’t rock my fucking socks off but their live sound was decent.

They looked like wind-up toys on stage and their set was a little on-the-nose:
* name of the album: "Turn on the Bright Lights"
* major stage prop: bright lights.

Genius.

Interpol’s lack of visual flare was a non-issue: arrived late and plenty of eye-candy to keep me entertained.

Therse guys don't have the right stuff: spineless, uninspired, ineloquent. Well, there's room at the top of corporate America.

This hipster has a good point: "Why are small towns not hip? The sign for Wal-Mart is too large for anyone to mistake. The fin preps all wear Abercrombie or A/X, they listen to 'Dave [Matthews Band'" and anything that TRL endorses. The suburban punks and goths shop at the same mall as the Aber-jocks."

The new K Street show on HBO is a vivid (and disgusting) expression of our decayed democracy. I don't know whether Americans far from Washington will find the program entertaining. I find it borderline obscene. The amorality of money-driven Washington is accurately depicted, though in a shallow manner designed not to piss off any truly important players. --William Greider

Well, yeah, but that's what Clowny & co. are going for...

Finally, some insightful analysis of Iraq from the times:

"nearly half of marriages, are between first or second cousins."
"The world is divided into two groups: kin and strangers."
"Iraqis frequently describe nepotism not as a civic problem but as a moral duty."
"..whoever is in power will bring his relatives in from the village and give them important positions."

Conclusion: our handle on the Iraqi psyche is terribly weak.

More on values:
$30 million was offered for information leading to the capture of Qusay & Uday Hussein. But it was the brothers’ landlord who turned them in not for the money, but because they were molesting his wife and daughter.

I'm trying to get the attention of hipstersareannoying.com. I really want to be their Austin bureau chief.

I could blame hipsters for ruining emo’s but that would be getting the mediocre music off the hook.

From the New York Times, Sunday edition:

The CIA has asked the justice department to investigate whether senior Bush administration officials broke the law by revealing the identity of an agency operative, a government official said today.

Why was this buried on page 21?

I missed some fantastic corporate e-mail threads while in HK. My Johnny-come-lately commentary:

"Your e-mail was the biggest bitch slap I’ve ever seen. If your e-mail was a hand, it would be five feet long and 2 feet high traveling at a thousand miles an hour."

On Hipsters:

Instead of saying, 'I'm a PlayStation-reared, e-mailing-all-the-time Friendster loser,' they’re getting lots of tattoos and drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon and listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Who’s your daddy?!?
